Dear cdc,
Thanks for your reply,i wonder whether you could provide me with some info on the window period. In china, the doctors recommend that the window period is 2-8weeks.They say 6 weeks is almost accutate, while some info from the western countries say that it should be 3-6 month. It is really confusing. What's your suggestion for that?
Regard,
Qingwei

Thank you for contacting the CDC National Prevention Information Network.
We are glad to help you. The tests commonly used to detect HIV infection are actually looking for antibodies produced by an individual’s immune system when they are exposed to HIV. Most people will develop detectable antibodies within two to eight weeks (the average is 25 days). Ninety seven percent will develop antibodies in the first three months following the time of their infection. In very rare cases, it can take up to six months to develop antibodies to HIV.
Please feel free to contact us if you need further assistance.
