Slow Seroconversion
Apr 5, 1999
Dear doctor, I am the fellow quoted under How can it be? who seroconverted after 13 months, after 8 negative Elisas, 2 negative western blots, and 6 undetectable VL'S. To answer your query, the three undetectable PCR's at 2,3 and 5 months were HIV RNA and, of the three undetectable viral loads at <50 copies, there was one bDNA and two PCR's. In general the doctors did not want to use a qualitative PCR because of the probability of false positives. I continued to test only bacuse of clinical symptoms, including: - PGL. axillary, elbows, groin, femoral, poplietal. - Continuedfatigue, ringing in the ears, nightsweats. - CD4 trend: 1070,980,610,884,892,1065. I believe that somehow my cellular immune system controlled the infection initially and my humoral system did not react until late when I developed the flu and a throat infection. There were no other exposures.
