consultant to CDC on STD/HIV prevention issues.

ME: With the theory of 6 weeks window period, excluding thoes whom has
inject drug use, big transplant surgery or those have damaged immiuned
system. What is your comment on it?

HH: The window period for a standard antibody test does not depend on the
nature of the exposure. It does not vary significantly in people with
"damaged immune systems", except maybe in people with almost destroyed
immune systems, such as potent chemotherapy or in people near death due
to cancer.

ME: those action, such as performing oral sex on a woman, or recieving a
handjob, having protected sex . Does above type of actions need to be tested for
HIV? If not, why is it ?

HH: Those activities are too low risk to require HIV testing. Even
unprotected vaginal sex usually is not high enough risk to have
automatic HIV testing. People who are sexually active outside permanent,
committed relationships should have an HIV test once a year. But in general they
should not be tested after any particular exposure, unless the situation
is espcially high risk, such as unprotected vaginal or anal sex with a
partner known to have HIV, or anal sex between men.
以上的行为,感染率非常的低所以无需去测验. 连无保护性交也不是危险到需要立即测验. 但是那些(与陌生人)性生活
丰富的人群应该1年测验一次. 但是总体来讲,对于一次性的以上行为, 都不用去测验. 除非是高度危险的情况, 好比无

ME: With modern rapid tests, is the 6 week window period suitable for them?
对于现代的快速法, 6周论适合吗?
HH: The rapid tests have a higher rate of false positive results (i.e.,
positive test in someone without HIV) than tests done in laboratories.
The window period is the same as for laboratory-based tests.
当实验报告与快速法相比,快速法有更高的假阳现象(好比阳的结果出现在一个未感染者). 但是窗口期两者是一样的.
ME:At last would you say something to everyone on the forum ?

HH: Safe sex means choosing partners at low risk, to the extent possible;
using condoms for anal and vaginal sex; and, for men who have sex with
men, particular care to ask about the partner's HIV status before
having sex. Oral sex is almost zero risk and hand-genital contact never
transmits HIV or other STDs.
安全性交意思是选择低危险人群当作性伙伴,越低越好; 当阴道,肛门性交时要使用保险套. 尤其对于男同性恋者,
